My Interview With Author Trish Marie Dawson!

A day late and a dollar short! This week, running behind, is my interview with Trish Marie Dawson, a truly wonderful author. She writes The Station series, and has just released the third installment this week. Without further ado, here’s the interview! Image

1. What genre are your books? They range from YA/NA to Adult Fantasy.

2. Where did the idea for your first book come from? The ideas for all of my books generally come from dreams. I write them all down so I can go back and use them later for stories.

3. What are you currently working on? Right now I’m ALMOST ready to publish the third book in my Station Series. Once it is released, I’ll start work on something new before diving into the third book of my other series.

4. Where do your book covers come from? I’ve had two people help me with my covers…one is a dear friend who has done all my covers for me, with the exception of ‘The Well Collector’, which was done by the lovely Miranda Stork.

5. Where do you see your writing career five years from now? Oh wow…I guess I see it as thriving! Right now I can pay bills with my writing income but it would be nice to have enough to live off of. One day. 😉

6. What is your favorite part of the writing process? Probably publishing – I love to get them out there. But as for the actual ‘writing’ part, perhaps the beginning, when I have to do my research and name characters and figure out where the plot will go.

7. What is your least favorite part of the writing process? Editing. Just…YUCK.

8. How do you write? Outlining, a few short notes that become a book, just sit down and write, etc? I have to figure out names and places, after I have notes for all of that, I just start writing. BUT as I get further into the story, an outline, even if it’s just a loose one, is beneficial for sure.

9. What message do you want your readers to take away from your books? I guess it depends on which book they read! LOL For my Station Series, the story is about a young woman who has committed suicide but is given another chance by redeeming herself later. I hope readers don’t see suicide as an option, but as the painful experience it is for the victim and their family. I also want those who have lost someone to suicide, as I have, to imagine them in a better place…free of pain and doing something that makes them happy. My other books are much lighter and I just hope that readers are entertained and lost in the story line.

10. What do you want to say, personally, to your readers right now? I love each and every one of them. Truly. Without someone reading my books, they wouldn’t be as much fun to continue writing. I love my job and would do it regardless of what others thought, but knowing people really enjoy my books is so rewarding.

Fun Questions

1. If you were only allowed to read one book for the rest of your life, what would that book be? ONE? Oh wow. I don’t think I could pick one. I couldn’t do it. Picking just ONE would violate the Book Lover Code.

2. If you could be any book character, who would you want to be? Yikes, this is hard too! I think I’d have to make this a blanket statement and just say I’d love to be a female character in any book with a hot male lead. It’s Fiction…anything could happen! LOL

3. If you could be anything at all, overnight, what career other than being an author would you choose? I’d still want to be some sort of Artist. A Photographer perhaps.

4. What one item could you not live without? My Burt’s Bees chapstick.

5. Who is your biggest inspiration? My children.

Dying to Return is the 3rd book in the YA/NA Fantasy, The Station Series. Piper Willow’s adventure in the afterlife continues as she struggles to discover who she is and what is expected of her. Faced with decisions that could change everything, she must weigh her desire to be with the ones she has come to love, or satisfy her curiosity and find out what lies beyond her world with someone new. What Piper experiences and the choices she makes could not only alter the delicate inner workings of the Station, but the delicate balance that Piper has managed to maintain inside herself. In the end, will it all be worth it?

Book Review- Coffee and Cockpits, by Jade Hart

Occasionally I enjoy reviewing books on my blog, but usually only if that book moves me in some way. Coffee and Cockpits by Jade Hart is just such a book. I was hooked from the first page, and I refused to put it down until I’d finished it. I just don’t have enough wonderful words to sum up this book, so I’ll share my review with you all instead-

http://www.amazon.com/Coffee-and-Cockpits-ebook/dp/B00CBWLWVQ/ref=sr_1_1_bnp_1_kin?ie=UTF8&qid=1371911047&sr=8-1&keywords=coffee+and+cockpits

Description

“If I had to die, I wanted it to be doing something I loved, with a man who wanted to fly me to the moon.”

By day, Nina Poppins is a professional flight attendant, who lives to travel, and isn’t afraid to chase her dreams. By night, she’s an award winning Salsa dancer who wears sexy corsets and garter belts. She wants to keep her two lives separate, but Liam Mikin knows her secrets.

Liam Mikin is a co-pilot used to getting any air-hostess he wants with one blazing look of his blue eyes. And he wants Nina. But Nina is adamant she won’t end up as another notch on a pilot’s wingtip.

However, fate intervenes when their airplane malfunctions on a routine flight to Samoa, stranding all the crew on the Pacific island. Liam has his opportunity to prove to Nina he’s not what she thinks, but he wasn’t counting on competition in the form of an engineer. Nikolai Rivers dances as well as Nina and is linked to Liam’s past. As Nikolai fights for Nina’s affections, Liam is forced to face what happened all those years ago.

Being island-wrecked in a five star hotel is anything but relaxing. Fraught with male egos, dancing, and secrets, both Nina and Liam aren’t ready for what fate has in store.

My Review

Nina is a strong woman who knows what she wants and nothing will deter her from her dream- she’s not going to be a flight attendant her whole life- one day she’ll fly the skies behind the controls. Liam is a strong, self-assured pilot… on the surface. The chink in his armor? The ever-growing love for Nina.

In Samoa, Nina’s barriers fall and Liam may just get the happy ending he’s been dreaming of…

And then the world unravels again, leaving the reader stunned and begging for more… Or at least I was! I finished this book in one sitting, as I just couldn’t bear to put it down and go to sleep. I highly recommend this book, and I’m eager to read more from this author. 5 stars!

My Interview With Author Natalie Gibson!

I’m starting something new here, and I hope you’re as excited as I am! Every Friday I’ll feature a new author. To kick it off, let’s start with author Natalie Gibson! She’s the author of the Sinnis series, a series I’m a huge fan of. She’s also writing the Carrier Trilogy, which is a fascinating trip in time, as well as the erotic short series, Mount Haven Quickies. Without further ado, here’s my interview with Natalie Gibson!

Image

1. What genre are your books? That’s a tough one.  Paranormal Romance, Erotic Romance, Erotica, Horror, Sci-fi – but they are all filled with action and adventure.  That’s what I like to read so that’s what I write.

2. Where did the idea for your first book come from? Well, Ishtar Bound was my first but it didn’t start out as a PNR.  It was a Contemporary Romance based on my meeting and falling in love with my husband.  About half way through I changed everything and added magic and boom – the books of Sinnis were born.

3. What are you currently working on? I am writing the sequel to Hateful Burden, a gaslight era paranormal horror, called Wretched Blood.  I am also working on a Sinnis Short Story and a stand-alone vampire novel.

4. Where do your book covers come from? I am lucky to be married to a wonderful man who encourages me and helps with anything he can.  He did all 5 covers for the Sinnis Books and all 4 Mount Haven Quickies.  I have a wonderful team at Blue Harvest Creative who did Hateful Burden.  They will do Wretched Blood and any other book not in the Sinnis series or Mount Haven Quickies.  They are now my official design team.

5. Where do you see your writing career five years from now? Oh, man.  It’s hard to say.  I would LIKE to be working full time as a writer instead of it being a side business.  I enjoy being self-published and don’t see myself chasing after the old-school dream of signing with one of the big 6.  If I can make a living at this, and it doesn’t have to be all that much money, I want to keep going like I am – I write, Blue Harvest Creative designs and then I publish.

6. What is your favorite part of the writing process? The beginning.  Deciding on a genre, subject, characters and then writing.  Because of this I have about a half dozen books started but not finished.

7. What is your least favorite part of the writing process? Trying to figure out how to get people to read my books.  I know there is a market for them but finding that market is the worst.

8. How do you write? Outlining, a few short notes that become a book, just sit down and write, etc? I just did a blog on that. http://www.theromancetroupe.com/2013/04/what-did-you-just-call-me.html  I am a list maker.  I took that and mixed it with the snowflake method.  I am a plotter/planner but I’m not afraid to dump my plans should something better come up.

9. What message do you want your readers to take away from your books? I write for entertainment.  If my readers enjoy the books, that is all I want.

10. What do you want to say, personally, to your readers right now? Thank you.  Thanks for taking a chance on an unknown.  And…TELL YOUR FRIENDS!

Fun Questions

1. If you were only allowed to read one book for the rest of your life, what would that book be? Every author has 100 top 10 books, if you know what I mean.  If I could really only choose one, it would probably be The Hollow Hills by Mary Stewart.

2. If you could be any book character, who would you want to be? Camilla Lovejoy in Ishtar Anomaly.  If you’ve read it, you know why.

3. If you could be anything at all, overnight, what career other than being an author would you choose? Director – for the stage.  I have a degree in Theatre from University of Texas at Austin.

4. What one item could you not live without? My Kindle

Hateful Burden- book 1 in the Carrier Trilogy

Hateful Burden is a gaslight-era paranormal horror novel as well as a psychological thriller where friends and foes are not always what they seem.

In this dark urban fantasy, paranormal powers are bred and collected. Lady Ramillia Winmoore, daughter of the Earl of Brooksberry, has suffered from gaps in her memory her entire life. But this darkness is a blessing. Whenever she feels threatened, it takes over and protects her from feeling pain or even the slightest bit of discomfort.

That is until the day she awakens strapped to an examining table at the West Freeman Asylum for Lunatics. Imprisoned for the gruesome murder of her parents, Ramillia learns she has lost ten months to the darkness. Forced to endure years of tortuous treatments in a grimy, hidden cell, salvation arrives in the form of a benefactor named Sir Julian Lawerence.

Betrothed to her through an arranged marriage, he helps her gain freedom. But appearances are deceiving and soon Ramillia learns the cost she must pay. The horrors she encounters in his household are far worse than the asylum when he inducts her into a society of blood-thirsty, cruel immortals.

Soon she is forced to join them and accept their way of life. Now Ramillia must break free of a prison she cannot see, kill an enemy that cannot die, and find a daughter that she cannot remember–all with the help of an ally she does not know. Who is Sally and can she be trusted? Is this mysterious and frightening woman trying to save her or is she planning on saving Ramillia for herself?

Hateful Burden is available for kindle for $2.99 or in paperback for $7.99
